Local Denny’s robbed at gunpoint

University Police worked with the Long Beach Police Department to track down an armed suspect who robbed a nearby Denny’s at gunpoint Nov. 16, Capt. Fernando Solorzano said.

The suspect, who wore a ski mask, dark clothing and a gun in hand, was last seen leaving the Denny’s on 5570 E. Pacific Coast Highway in a white two-door Honda.

University Police got involved in the case after the LBPD requested assistance searching for the suspect.

However, the suspect could not be located after a search of the area was conducted by both University and Long Beach Police Departments.

The case now remains under investigation by the LBPD.

Fanny pack thief at large

A woman’s fanny pack was stolen from her on campus Nov. 15, Solorzano said.

The owner of the fanny pack set it down beside her as she sat on a bench by the southeast lecture hall, Room 151. She then briefly stepped away from the bench to stretch, leaving her fanny pack on the bench behind her. She said when she turned around, her fanny pack was no longer there.

She recalled seeing an individual with dark clothing running off in the distance, but Solorzano said there isn’t enough evidence to link the missing fanny pack and the sprinting individual together.

The valued loss is $280. The case remains under investigation by University Police.

Stolen bike reported

A student reported his bike had been stolen from the north side of the Parkside Commons Residence Hall on Nov. 15, Solorzano said. The bike was reportedly locked with a cable key lock. However, no traces of the bike or lock remained at the last known location. The loss of the silver mountain bike is valued at $200. No information on the suspect exists, and the case remains under investigation by University Police.

Near-food fight is stopped

A food fight scare prompted a manager at the Residence Commons Dining Hall to contact University Police on Nov. 13, Solorzano said.

The manager reported that students in the dining hall might start a food fight and requested police assistance to stop it.

When police arrived at the dining hall, the manager had already controlled the situation and no police action was required.

However, police warned students that they would be judicially cited if they were ever part of a food fight in the future.

Emergency call placed after football player tackled

Playing football led to a 911 call after one student was knocked unconscious during a tackle on Nov. 14, Solorzano said. Both University Police and the Long Beach Fire Department tended to the 21-year-old when he briefly blacked out in Lot 10. However, the student was released on the scene after being examined by LBFD.
