Push Olympics raises money for disabled

Cal State Long Beach fraternities and sororities competed in games like relays, a potato-sack race and a pie-eating contest to raise money for charity this Sunday.

Pi Kappa Phi’s first Push Olympics at the track and field on campus donated all proceeds to Push America, an organization that serves those with mental and physical disabilities.

“We realized that no one has really thrown a Greek Olympic event here on campus,” said Sean Pellerin, announcer and Pi Kappa Phi member. “Other fraternities do it across the nation, but no one has really done it here.”

“We would like to have had a bigger turnout, but we did have two fraternities and three sororities show up, which was nice to see,” Pellerin said. “But, hopefully, next year, we’ll get more fraternities and sororities to come out to support.”

Push Olympics featured track and field activities like sprints and relays in addition to spinning baseball bat races and other games.

“[Push Olympics] was a lot of fun and I thought it was a good way to raise money for the philanthropy,” Tri-Delta member Lauran Iglehart said.

The White Rabbit sold burritos, fries and various soft drinks. The food truck donated 10 percent of all sales to Push America.

Tau Kappa Epsilon won the trophy for the fraternity division and Tri-Delta received the large trophy in the sorority division.
