Students at the College of Business Administration (CBA) received a new place to study as a result of a student survey conducted by Associated Students Inc. during the first week of October.
Where a 49er Shops convenience store was located, new tables and chairs have been added.
ASI Sen. Jose Espeleta and Sen. Te-Kai Shang’s plan to create the study space began when they conducted the student survey and, with the help from Sen. George Lam and Jeane Caveness, the assistant dean of students for the office of equity and diversity, the plan became a reality.
“The survey was of great help,” Espeleta said via email. “We were able to identify various concerns from our students, which we are currently looking for ways to solving them.”
According to Espeleta, the CBA is paying for the new tables and chairs.
“We are still working with administration to find the funding for the tables but we are trying our best to provide students with more space,” Espeleta added.
But some, like senior accounting major Heather Kwon, don’t like the relocation of the convenience stores.
“I like the new features, it looks clean,” Kwon said. “But I don’t like how the convenience store got far away from the classrooms.”
Espeleta hopes this study space will highlight the role of ASI senators on campus.
“We hope to keep working towards the success of the students and to let them know that we are here for them and that we are open to hear any concerns that they may have,” Espeleta said.
