Students spit on anti-abortion activists

On two separate occasions, students assaulted Genocide Awareness Project anti-abortion activists last week, University Police Capt. Scott Brown said.

Both students, 21-year-old Ian Schenck and 22-year-old Madison Witte, were caught spitting on volunteers at the anti-abortion campaign that was located near the Speaker’s Platform across from the University Bookstore, Brown said.

In one incident, Witte rode past GAP staff on her bike and spit on a volunteer, Brown said. Schenck had spit on a worker’s face as he walked past GAP’s set up, Brown said.

In both cases, other staff members followed the suspects until University Police arrived on scene, Brown said. The victims requested a private person’s arrest. Schenck and Witte were criminally cited and released, Brown said.

May Day fliers damage library

Fliers and stickers were glued in several locations on the first floor of the University Library on April 24 at about 2 p.m., Brown said.

The advertisements promoted the May Day protests on May 1 and were promptly taken down as they caused damage to the windows and walls of the library, Brown said. Actual footage of the vandalism act was taken from the library’s cameras, but University Police are unable to identify the suspect, Brown said.

Taxi-cab dash

A taxi-cab driver reported two intoxicated students refusing to pay for their cab fare on April 22 around 1 a.m. at the Residential Learning Center, Brown said.

After the driver had brought the students to their requested location, the two students claimed they did not have the money and ran from the vehicle, Brown said.

The driver initially told the RLC security guard and left his contact information because he did not want to wait for University Police to arrive. Once they were on scene, University Police tried contacting the driver to get more details, but received no response, Brown said.

Road rage rampage

Two students ended up in a physical argument after a parking discrepancy in Parking Structure 2 on April 26 at 9:21 a.m., Brown said.

The incident started with a verbal argument when the suspect left his vehicle and was yelling at the victim who was still in his car, Brown said.

The verbal exchange turned violent when the suspect swung at the victim, Brown said. The victim decided to file a report at the University Police station and the suspect followed him there, Brown said. Both of the students were judicially cited and released, Brown said.

Scary skateboarders

Seven men were skateboarding and biking at Lot 19 on April 21 around 1:45 p.m., Brown said.

When a Cal State Long Beach staff member had asked the men to stop and leave campus, one of the skateboarders did a trick close to her face, Brown said. She was frightened and informed University Police.

When University Police arrived on scene, they found that one of the skateboarders had a warrant for his arrest and was brought to the Long Beach Police Department, Brown said. The others were cited and are not allowed to return to CSULB for at least seven days, Brown said.

Stolen items

About $900 worth of merchandise was stolen from the men’s P.E. locker rooms between April 23 and April 24, Brown said.
The man secured his locker and returned the next day and saw the lock was missing, Brown said. The missing items include two Speedo swimsuits, 10 pairs of Speedo goggles, and a black backpack, Brown said. There are currently no suspects.

A student reported his 32 GB iPhone 4 stolen from the West Gym on April 25 around 7 p.m., Brown said.

The student had left the iPhone hidden under his sweatshirt on a table and returned to find it missing, Brown said. The total estimated loss is $350.

A student reported her 16 GB iPhone 4s stolen from the Horn Center on April 20 around 12 p.m., Brown said.
The total estimated lost is $299, Brown said.
