The Associated Students, Inc. Senate unanimously passed an emergency resolution on its first, second and third readings yesterday, opposing three proposed fees that the Cal State University Board of Trustees is expected to vote on next week.
The fees would go into effect fall 2013 and are estimated to generate $35 million for the CSU system. They would charge students for taking heavy course loads, delaying graduation and repeating classes. The fees have been recommended by the CSU Finance Committee to go into effect, regardless of the passage of Gov. Jerry Brown’s tax initiative, Proposition 30.
Senators and other student advocates are encouraged to attend the Board meeting at the CSU Chancellor’s Office on Sept. 18 and 19 to speak out against the proposed student fees.
