Blotter: Student arrested for stealing a book

A male student was detained by bookstore employees after he was found attempting to steal a book from the University Bookstore at 11:03 a.m. on Oct. 8, University Police Captain Scott Brown said. Wellington Williams, 19, was arrested by University Police and booked at Long Beach City Jail, Brown said. Williams was charged with burglary, Brown said.

Argument at the USU

University Police responded to a group of men who were involved in a verbal argument near the University Student Union food court at 8:23 p.m. on Oct. 8, Brown said. The argument was over the petty theft of a skateboard, Brown said. Officers investigated and determined that the suspect shoved the owner of the skateboard, and a private persons arrest was issued by the owner of the skateboard, Brown said. The suspect was issued a citation, Brown said.

USU pool vandalized

The swimming pool in the USU was vandalized during the weekend of Oct. 6-7, Brown said. A hole was put in the pool cover, Brown said. No suspect information is available, Brown said.
