‘Niner Notes: March 17

Women’s Tennis: The Beach slips past Minnesota

The 49ers extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-3 win over Minnesota on Wednesday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.

No. 53 LBSU (11-2) dropped the doubles point, but regrouped to capture four of the six singles matches to pull out a nonconference win over the No. 57 Golden Gophers. Anais Dallara sealed the match for the ‘Niners with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win over Tiiana Koprivica at No. 2 singles.

Beach freshman Jaklin Alawi, who picked up Big West Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, dropped the No. 1 singles match to Alessandra Ferrazi, 6-3, 7-6 (4). At No. 3 singles, Deborah Armstrong cruised past Doron Muravnik 6-4, 6-1.

Rachel Manasse downed Alexa Palen 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and Anna Jeczmionka swept Jackie Sperling 6-1, 6-2.

‘Niner freshman Sarah Cantlay fell to Magdelena Wiecha 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
The Beach returns to action on Friday when it hosts No. 42 Nebraska at 2 p.m.
