The Beach still searching for first win

The Long Beach State women’s water polo team scored just one goal over the final three quarters Saturday in a 9-3 road loss to 10th-ranked San Diego State.

Tied at 2 after the first quarter at the Aztec Aquaplex, SDSU scored five unanswered goals from five different players to take a 7-2 advantage into the final frame.

LBSU (0-3) was paced by a pair of freshmen, who accounted for all three goals. Julia Garyfallou scored twice while Coriann Snyder also found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Kristen Stragier made 10 saves.

The Aztecs (4-1) received two goals apiece from Sarah Brady, Leanne Ford and Amber Pezzolla. Goalkeeper Kelly Campoli finished with 20 saves.

The ‘Niners will head back to San Diego next week for the two-day Triton Invitational starting Saturday.
