Water polo falls short against No. 6 LMU

The No. 10-ranked Long Beach State women’s water polo team nearly pulled off the biggest victory of its season on Saturday. But the 49ers fell short against No. 6-host Loyola Marymount, 5-4, in the second day of the LMU Invitational in Los Angeles.

Freshman defender Coriann Snyder led the way for the ‘Niners with two goals.

The Beach played to a 1-1 tie behind a goal from Snyder in the first period.

Meanwhile, LBSU took a 2-1 lead after Chelsea Parks scored with 2:34 remaining in the half.

However, the Lions answered with a goal in the closing seconds of the break to tie the game at two apiece.

The Lions were the only team to score in the third period, despite the efforts of LBSU goaltender Kristen Stragier who made four saves in the quarter.

However, the 49ers were unable to pull any closer than one goal, closing back to within one on a Krizia Cerda goal in the final minute. But it was too little too late as the Lions held on for the win.

LBSU will return to the LMU Invitational to face Cal State San Bernardino at 2 p.m.
