Men’s water polo stays perfect on the season

The Long Beach State men’s water polo team finished the Redlands Tournament on Sunday with wins over Whittier, 11-4, and La Verne, 22-5, to maintain its perfect record on the season.

Game One:

LBSU (7-0) resumed right where it left off yesterday, winning its first game of the day. Outscoring Whittier in every quarter, including a 8-3 lead going into intermission.

The offense was spearheaded by Nathan McConell with three goals and Vrzic with two. Aleksandar Petrovic, Barry Snyder, Brian Schiefer, Dan Matulis, Hayden Leech and Joey Fabian all added a goal for the 49ers.

Starting goal keeper Matthew Kubeck saved five shot attempts.

Game Two:

Long Beach rounded out the weekend with a high scoring affair. Petrovic and Shiefer both netted four goals for the 49ers. Synder scored three, while McConell, Beau Blacksten, Milos Vrzic, and Fabian scored two goals apiece. Devin Mefford, Matulis, and Leech scored the other three goals.

Freshman starting goalkeeper Sinan Karatay had six saves for the match.

The 49ers will next compete Sep. 17 and 18 at the NorCal Tournament in Stockton, Calif.
