Men’s water polo falls to USC in MPSF opener

The Long Beach State men’s water polo team lost No. 4-ranked USC, 14-3, in the 49ers’ Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference opener on Thursday in Los Angeles.

LBSU was led by Brian Schiefer, Milos Vrzic, and Hayden Leach. The trio scored a single goal a piece.

The Trojans had six players score two goals each in the rout for USC. The Trojans remain atop the MPSF conference with a 2-0 record.

Long Beach State drops to 0-1 in conference play, boasting an 11-4 season record.

Keeper John Mroch totaled four saves in the game.

The Trojans led 6-0 before the 49ers reached the scoreboard. LBSU played a close third quarter, holding USC to a 2-1 scoring edge.

All three of the LBSU goals came in the second half.

The 49ers will host the the UC Berkeley on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the 49er Campus Pool.
